How Much Protein in 1 Scoop of Whey Protein? Indian Brands Compared (Surprising Results!)

When deciding which whey protein brand to choose, one of the leading criteria is how much protein in 1 scoop of whey protein. Although we can simply look at the front of the whey protein pack and see how much protein the brand claims to have in 1 scoop, it is actually not so straightforward. In this analysis, PROTEIN METER compares in detail the protein content of major whey protein brands in India.

Why Not Just Look at Protein Stated on the Front of the Pack?

We cannot simply look at the stated protein per scoop on the front of the pack because different brands use different scoop sizes. Therefore, even if two brands state that they have 20g protein per scoop, it might not be comparable since one brand may be using a 34g scoop size while the other brand might be using a 40g scoop size.

Therefore, in order to make them comparable we have standardized the scoop sizes of all brands to 35g (see calculation example towards the end). Below is how major Indian brands stack up against each other when determining how much protein in 1 scoop of whey protein.

Types of Whey Protein Brands based on How Much Protein in 1 Scoop of Whey Protein

To help you quickly identify the most protein-dense whey options in India, we’ve classified major brands into three categories based on their protein per scoop (35g):

1. Lower (<24g of protein per 35g scoop)

These products offer lower protein per scoop, generally corresponding to more cost-effective options in the market. Popular options in this category include NAKPRO Impact Whey Protein, MuscleBlaze Whey Energy and NATURALTEIN Whey Protein.

2. Mid-range (24g – 26g of protein per 35g scoop)

This mid-range segment has more protein-dense options. Products like XLR8 Whey protein, Muscle Nectar 100% Whey Protein and Trunativ WHEY PROTEIN PRO BLEND fall in this range.

3. Higher (>26g of protein per 35g scoop)

These products are the most protein-dense options on the market. Examples include Amul Whey Proteinavvatar Whey Protein, and Optimum Nutrition (ON) Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein.

Note: In general, the products that have higher protein density are also more expensive, but there are many exceptions. Read our detailed whey protein price comparison in India. That analysis also contains a detailed table showing data for all of the major products studied.

The Bottom Line on Protein per Scoop

Ultimately, when looking into how much protein in 1 scoop of whey protein, it comes down to how much you want to spend. If you’re on a budget, mid-range whey proteins (24g – 26g per scoop) strike the best balance of cost and nutrition. For maximum protein per scoop, premium options like Optimum Nutrition (ON) deliver higher density but at a higher price, but there are also brands like Amul and avvatar that are protein-dense and cost-effective at the same time. Always standardized protein per scoop when comparing two different brands, not just what’s on the front label.

Methodology & Notes

Brand Selection

To perform the protein density in whey protein analysis, brands were chosen majorly basis testing by Trustified and on popularity and relevance across leading marketplaces like Amazon and Flipkart.

Standardized Scoop Size

Since scoop sizes vary across products, all data is standardized to a 35g scoop to accurately determine how much protein in 1 scoop of whey protein. Example: If a brand lists a 40g scoop with 30g protein, the adjusted protein per scoop = 30 × (35 ÷ 40) = 26.25g.
